Diesel in a petrol car: what to do
Diesel in a petrol engine is less damaging than the other way round, but it still needs sorting before you drive. Here's why.

What goes wrong
Diesel is thicker than petrol and won't ignite on the spark plugs, so the car misfires, smokes heavily and usually stalls. It clogs the plugs and fuel system rather than causing the injector damage petrol-in-diesel does.
Good news and next steps
Because diesel nozzles are wider, it's harder to do — but it happens. Don't keep trying to run it. A drain and flush clears the system and you're back to normal the same day.
